Fable Launcher documentation
Fable Launcher is a Tauri desktop application for managing Minecraft Java Edition instances, installing game loaders and supported content, and launching the game. This guide follows the current source implementation; behavior can vary by platform and release.
Start here
- Getting started — understand the main workspace and first-use flow.
- Create or import an instance — build a separate setup or bring in an existing one.
- Accounts and profiles — Microsoft sign-in and offline profiles, with platform limitations.
- Browse and install content — find the implemented Modrinth workflow.
- Troubleshooting — collect evidence and use non-destructive checks first.
Use the search control in the top navigation or the sidebar to browse the full documentation. The sidebar collapses into a mobile menu on smaller screens.
Feature status at a glance
| Area | Current source status |
|---|---|
| Instances, game launch, files, worlds, logs, and archive sharing | Implemented; see instance overview. |
| Vanilla Minecraft and Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt | Installation paths are implemented; compatibility coverage varies by release. |
| Modrinth browsing and installation | Implemented. CurseForge is unavailable pending approved API access. |
| Microsoft sign-in | Implemented on Windows; the backend rejects Microsoft credential storage on non-Windows builds. |
| Offline profiles | Implemented as local launcher profiles; they do not represent Microsoft authentication or game ownership. |
| Skins and capes | UI and authenticated service workflows exist; consult skins and capes for prerequisites and testing caveats. |
| Server discovery and connection tools | Not available; the Servers page is marked coming soon. |
| Updates | Update flows exist, but verification depends on a trusted public key supplied at build time. Check the release and update notes before relying on updater claims. |
Important distinctions
- A loader/content interface does not establish that every version combination is supported. Check the project and game versions before installing.
- The website UI is not route-based documentation for the desktop app; use the labels and paths in this guide.
- Export filters reduce accidental inclusion of some sensitive-looking files but cannot guarantee an archive contains no private data. Review shared archives before sending them.
- Backend target configuration includes more than Windows, but Microsoft credential storage and the reviewed updater checks are Windows-specific. Do not infer equivalent support across targets.
For source evidence, limitations, and areas still requiring review, see the developer audit and coverage checklist.
